The open-air travelling exhibition "Queens of Structure", which was co-initiated by an FHP graduate, is finally coming to Potsdam! After the vernissage on the 2nd of October, the "Queens" and some of their works will be freely accessible on campus until the 13th of November.

The "Queens of Structure" exhibition shows 18 female civil engineers whose projects represent the wide-ranging fields of activity and topics in civil engineering and whose positions make the diversity of challenges and individual approaches visible. The female protagonists inspire with their passion for their profession and act with great naturalness in a male-dominated professional field. They have seized opportunities, driven forward and creatively implemented ideas and have long since made technical expertise their programme.

This exhibition confronts the double invisibility of female civil engineers, because not only are the contributions of women rarely recognised – the achievements of the profession as a whole often remain hidden and rarely receive recognition. This includes the historical pioneers shown here, who tried to use their interest in technical knowledge to penetrate a professional world that had long been closed to them.

With their instructive and exciting experiences, the women presented here are encouraging role models for future generations of female civil engineers and can help them to define their place in civil engineering and thus advance the profession as a whole.

Co-initiator of the exhibition (together with Birgit Hartwig, Anath Wolff and Nicole Zahner) is Nicole Parlow (graduate of the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam).

About Nicole Parlow

Following her sporting success as a footballer, including with Bundesliga club Turbine Potsdam, Nicole Parlow studied civil engineering at the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences. She graduated in 2009 and began working as an employee at the structural engineering firm Dr.-Ing. Christian Müller GmbH in Berlin. In addition to various new construction projects, she supervised many conversion projects such as the conversion of the former Urbank Hospital in Berlin-Kreuzberg. In 2019, she took over the position of managing partner in the office. She is an honorary member of the Gesellschaft für Bautechnikgeschichte, a compulsory member of the Baukammer Berlin and a co-opted board member of the Architekten- und Ingenieurverein zu Berlin-Brandenburg e.V.

The Queens are guests at the FHP on the initiative of the student collective perspektiv;wechsel, with financial support from the student equal opportunities fund.
