Start of studies at the Civil Engineering Department

Welcome to the beginning of the semester at the civil engineering departemtn at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam. For first-year students and newly enrolled students, we organise various events and activities at the start of the semester as part of the "Grundsteinlegung". We also offer a bridge course in mathematics for bachelor's degree programmes.

Bridge course in mathematics for bachelor's degree programmes

The course consists of an online self-study course and a classroom component. The dates have been postponed to week 38 and 39:

Welcome to the first semester

Your studies will begin on September 30, 2024 at 09:00 a.m. with the central matriculation ceremony and welcome by our President Eva Schmitt-Rodermund. We will then welcome you all at 11.00 a.m. in the laboratory and workshop building for the welcome and information event at the Department of Civil Engineering by our Dean Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gunar Gutzeit.

The introductory events of the Department of Civil Engineering, from 30/09 to 02/10/2024, are compulsory for all newly enrolled students and ensure that you get off to a good start.

  • 9.00 - 10.30 am
    Central matriculation ceremony in the main building (HG/Room 108)
  • 11.00 am - 4.00 pm
    Welcome and information event at the Department of Civil Engineering in the laboratory and workshop building (LW/Room 201) and House 1
  • 4.00 pm - Open End
    Welcome party on the campus of the FH Potsdam*

  • 9.00 am - 4.00 pm
    Exploration walk / urban scavenger hunt in the city of Potsdam*

Wednesday, 02/10/2024

  • 9.00 - 11.45 am
    Creation of presentations on the urban scavenger hunt in groups *
  • 12.30 - 01.15 pm
    Fire safety briefing in the laboratory and workshop building (LW/Room 201)
  • 01.30 - 4.30 pm
    Group presentation of the results (proof of performance) in House 1*

Please note: Your semester ticket is only valid from 1st of October 2024.

For the introductory events on Monday, 30/09/2024 and face-to-face events in some degree programs from the end of September 2024, you will need to purchase a regular ticket for public transport to get to campus.
