Useful tips

Here you will find some decisions of the Examination Board.

If you have not found the information you are looking for in the examination regulations or on this page regarding examination matters or the recognition of achievements, you are welcome to contact the Examination Board by e-mail (pau-fb5@fh-potsdam.de). Please explain the facts of the case clearly and do not forget the usual personal details (name, degree programme, semester, matriculation number).

You will also receive information about internships during your studies.

Information on the recognition and crediting of achievements as well as the necessary forms can be found here.
If you require advice, you can generally contact Ms Corinna Stoll. An exception to this is recognition for the extension area. You can find information on this on the Extension area page. If you have any further questions, please contact Kerstin Annabell Witzke, who is responsible for recognition in the extension area.

Recognition of the module achievement "Scientific work"

If there is a graded examination achievement from a previous degree programme, this achievement will be recognised with a grade. If there is an ungraded performance record, it will be recognised without a grade. Students who do not have a certificate of achievement in a module on the subject of academic work, but have a degree, will be recognised for G5a without a grade.

Recognition of the module G6 Specialised English

G6 is recognised for students who can prove that they have completed a degree in English Studies worth at least 90 ECTS credit points.

Recognition of a completed degree programme for module P 01 "Start me up"

Students on Bachelor's degree programmes who have already completed a previous course of study can have this recognised for the introductory module P 01 "Start me up". This is recognised without a grade.

For the correct booking of your sick note, it is necessary that you submit the original sick note (no scan, no photo) to the Study and Examination bob体育平台官网 of the FH Potsdam within three working days.

In addition to your name and matriculation number, it is essential to include the module name, date of the examination and the name of the examiner.

Of course, you should also send a copy of the sick note to the lecturer responsible.

Students can repeat a course if they fail an examination attempt. In this case, the second or third attempt only takes place after the repeated attendance of the course. A corresponding application to the lecturer is required for this. (see minutes of the meeting on 28/10/2015)

The lecturer must inform the Examination Board of an upcoming third attempt, whereupon the Examination Board will appoint a second examiner. (see minutes of the meeting on 28/10/2015)

Technical aids that do not affect equal treatment with other students do not have to be applied for and can be used in examination situations (e.g. room microphone for the hard of hearing). The examiners must be informed in advance by the students. (see minutes of the meeting on 05/01/2022)

In principle, students have the opportunity to lodge an objection against the assessment of their examination performance with the Examination Board, stating good reasons. To this end, the Examination Board adopted the following control procedure on 12 November 2013:

  1. In the event of an objection, the Examination Board recommends that the student inspect the documentation of the examination performance and discuss the assessment with the examiner within 14 days.
  2. If outstanding issues cannot be resolved by mutual agreement, formal objections to the assessment of an examination must be submitted by the student to the Examination Board within a tight timeframe of a maximum of 14 days of the examination event or the announcement of the examination assessment and must be substantiated in writing. Unspecified blanket statements such as "I feel unfairly treated in comparison to others" cannot generally be dealt with appropriately by the PAU or the examiner concerned. In such cases, a rejection of the objection is generally to be expected.
  3. The examination board then initiates the reconsideration procedure by bringing the objections to the attention of the original examiners and resubmitting the examination results in question as well as the documentation of the assessment decision. The examiners originally responsible meet again for a follow-up discussion and reassessment to assess the examination performance in the light of the objections. The result of the reassessment - which may be a confirmation or amendment of the assessment, also with regard to the examination standard - is recorded in detail by the examiners and forwarded to the examination board.
  4. After considering all the information available, the Examination Board then reaches a decision on the outcome of the reassessment procedure, which is communicated to the student in the form of a written decision with information on legal remedies.
  5. An appeal against this decision can be lodged within one month (see § 74 VwGO).

Students must register for the final thesis by the deadline set by the examination board. Exceptions are only possible in justified cases. A corresponding application must be submitted to the Examination Board four weeks later, stating the planned registration date and the start of the processing period. The application must be accompanied by a justification and the agreement of the supervisor for the unscheduled examination period. (Resolution of the Examination Board from 13/04/2021)

With reference to the DFG recommendations for good scientific practice, the Examination Board has decided that a supervisor must make a separate declaration that he/she is not biased if he/she makes him/herself available as a reviewer of a thesis. The procedure for suspected bias begins with a complaint to the Examination Board. (see minutes of the meeting on 30/06/2015)

According to the examination regulations, it is possible to change the topic of the thesis within the first third of the processing time with the consent of the first assessor. The application must be submitted to the Examination Office. The Examination Board has also decided on a hyphen rule: If the topic is only specified later or special content is excluded, this can be added with a hyphen ("- excluding [...]" or "- with special consideration of [...] or "- using the example of [...]"). (see minutes of the meeting of 28/10/2015)

The Examination Board has recommended limiting the length of Bachelor's theses to 90,000 characters of text (excluding appendices). (see minutes of the meeting on 17/01/2018)

The defence of the Bachelor's or Master's thesis is equivalent to an oral examination. It can therefore be repeated if it is not passed. The Bachelor's thesis and the defence are to be seen as two separate matters for which different credits are awarded.
