"Archives in the Information Age" – New Certificate Course starts in Autumn

The Department of Information Sciences and the Centre for Further and Continuing Education (ZEW) have relaunched the continuing education course "Archives in the Information Age" in cooperation with Freie Universit?t Berlin. Applications for the new certificate course are now open.
The further education programme begins on the 22nd of September 2025 and is aimed at employees in archives or related institutions who wish to gain further qualifications in the field of archival work.
The ten modules of the programme provide an overview of the most important tasks and tools of archival practice. The programme offers one module each on archive management, historical education and public relations, audiovisual media and historical source work in archives, as well as a total of four modules with different focuses on digital archiving, two modules on digital strategies for archive work and preservation as the basis for the (digital) use of archive work, and one module on copyright and personal rights in archives.
The two-day seminars combine theory with practical reports and exercises. They offer a platform for the exchange of experiences and ideas with the lecturers and other participants, over and above pure specialist knowledge. A workshop in the archive of the Jewish Museum Berlin and a visit to the ZUSE Institute Berlin with on-site discussions with experts complete the programme.
It is possible to book both the entire programme and individual modules if there are enough places available.
