Students Ioanna Danai Katsougiannopoulou and Ha-Thao-Suong Vu from the Department of Information Sciences at Potsdam University of Applied Sciences were honoured with the b.i.t. online innovation award at the Library Congress 2025 in Bremen. Their project "Queer Treasury - specialised database for academic literature on queer issues", which aims to establish a centralised and quality-assured information infrastructure on queer issues, was awarded the prize. The award ceremony took place on 25 June 2025 as part of the 9th Library Congress in Bremen.

"Queer Treasury" is aimed at academics, education and social work professionals as well as queer organisations and interested individuals. The aim is to make academic publications and grey literature on LGBTIQ topics accessible and thus close an existing information gap. Grey literature refers to publications that are not sold in traditional book and magazine stores and are often difficult to find or are not bibliographically recorded. The database is to be set up together with queer communities and experts from the information sciences and maintained and sustainably developed over the long term.

A central element of the project is the development of a controlled vocabulary on the topic of queer, which enables a systematic and differentiated search within the database - a tool that has been lacking in the German-speaking world to date. Queer Treasury also contributes to the visibility and acceptance of queer realities in research and society. The Queer Treasury project impressed with its relevance in terms of content, methodological quality and high social impact.

"With Queer Treasury, our students impressively demonstrate how information science expertise and social commitment can be effectively combined. The project sets standards for a discrimination-sensitive, inclusive information infrastructure - and is a strong signal for innovation in teaching," says Prof Dr Veit K?ppen, Professor of Library Science - Technologies, Systems and bob体育平台官网s at the Department of Information Science at Potsdam University of Applied Sciences.
