Day of the Open Monument: Exciting findings from a student research project on child psychiatry in the GDR
A group of students the Social Work programmes spent two semesters researching the history of the GDR children's clinic Neufahrland in the former Landhaus Adlon under the direction of Prof Dr Alexandra Schmidt-Wenzel and in cooperation with the Informations- und Begegnungszentrum K?nigsheide (IBZ e. V.).
The findings from the analysis of numerous original documents on everyday hospital life and a large number of interviews with contemporary witnesses will now be presented for the first time at the historic site on Open Monument Day 2025.
The Landhaus Adlon was built in 1925 on behalf of the hotelier Louis Adlon according to a design by Hans Rottmayer in the neo-baroque style. The 5000 square metre site comprises a single-storey central main building, a cavalier house and a boathouse. After the Second World War, it was used by various institutions; today it is mainly used as a wedding venue.
From 1948 to 1966, the building housed a paediatric psychiatric clinic. An exhibition about this period has now been created by students at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam in cooperation with the Informations- und Begegnungszentrum (IBZ) K?nigsheide, which is being presented for the first time and fills an important gap in research.
Car park, public transport connections and snacks available.
