Retrospective
InNoWest presented "Play with Limits – My Climate Budget" and its Sub-Projects with the FHP Mobil
InNoWest was on the road with the FHP Mobile from the 15th to the 17th of September 2023 and presented its sub-projects and the "Play with Limits – My Climate Budget" at the Potsdam Environmental Festival, the Rail Day in Wustermark and the Long Night of Business in Wusterhausen a. d. Dosse.
Review and feedback
For the third year in a row, citizens were sensitised to the topics of climate, emissions (CO2e), residual climate budget and self-efficacy. More than 150 citizens attended the Rail Day in Wustermark, the Long Night of Business in Wusterhausen and the environmental festival at the Potsdam Biosphere. This year, the new edition of "Play with Borders" focussed in particular on the regional opportunities in Brandenburg. Based on the Brandenburg Climate Plan, participants were presented with concrete measures to reduce emissions in all sectors on a large scale. The game with borders continues to enjoy great popularity and is a crowd-puller at events.
This year's findings from the FHP Mobile Tour will be incorporated into the InNoWest project as part of the "Play with Borders" working group and utilised for further development. We are looking forward to the next tour. Especially because the positive feedback from the people of Brandenburg is a huge motivator for Play with Borders:
- "I think it's great that this topic is conveyed in a factual and so vivid way."
- "The building blocks make the conditions so vividly tangible."
- Child: "Even if I use the smallest number of bricks at all the stations, I still won't get below the 0.75 tonnes that would be necessary! Can that be right?"
- "Extremely factual and nice that it's so constructive and not lurid and alarmist!"
- "Phew, we really do have a lot of challenges ahead of us."
- "And I always thought China was the big problem."
Playing with Limits – My Climate Budget
The Game with Limits – My Climate Budget was developed by Prof. Holger Jahn and Tobias J?necke as part of the materialnet research project and on the occasion of the Environmental Festival Potsdam 2021. Since then, the game with limits has been used at various events and further developed with colleagues as part of the joint project InNoWest at the FHP. The motivation for developing the game was and is to engage in dialogue with as many people as possible and to sensitise them to the topics of climate, emissions (CO2e), residual climate budget and self-efficacy.
The Paris Climate Agreement (2015), which is binding under international law, states the following: As a global community, we have chosen the path of climate neutrality in order to protect our planet from an average global warming of over 1.5 °C compared to pre-industrial times and to protect our livelihoods. When and how we achieve greenhouse gas neutrality in Germany from 2022 depends on the target and the broad support of the community. Our greenhouse gas budget is already severely depleted. Nevertheless, there is sufficient room for manoeuvre that allows us to look positively to the future. We use the game to look at the systemic connections behind our emissions as well as individual, professional and collective options for action for a greenhouse gas-neutral tomorrow.
InNoWest – Just do it! Sustainable and digital together in North-West Brandenburg
The joint project InNoWest - Simply do it! Sustainable and digital together in North-West Brandenburg aims to shape transformation processes together with stakeholders in the region.
The three universities – The University of Applied Sciences Potsdam (FHP), Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences (THB) and Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (HNEE) – are contributing their specific skills and scientific expertise to the design of effective solutions for user-centred digitalisation, climate-friendly renovation, citizen participation and education for sustainable development. The aim is to establish and expand cooperation between social practice and science and to jointly create concrete added value for the living environment of people in the project region. Project staff will present further details of the project on site and will be available to answer questions and discuss your ideas.
The project is funded by the federal-state initiative "Innovative University" of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Joint Science Conference of the Federal States (2023 - 2027).
Why the FHP Mobile?
The FHP Mobil is a great tool for the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam, allowing us as the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam to take part in events such as the Potsdam Environmental Festival and stand out from the crowd of exhibitors. And not only that, we have a familiar "space" with us at such an event, which we can utilise with our furniture system according to individual ideas and requirements.
Thanks to the mobile photovoltaic panel, the organiser no longer even has to provide electricity to power our lights and screens. We are completely flexible when it comes to the locations we want to visit. It was only thanks to the FHP Mobil that we were able to visit 3 events over 3 days with InNoWest. Of course, the FHP Mobil was primarily an exhibition venue and visitor magnet for us, but behind the scenes it was also a storage and transport vehicle.
