After studying psychology, I completed my doctorate in environmental stress and recovery research in the DFG Research Training Group Urban Ecology III from 2008 to 2011. Following subsequent university projects in the fields of health sociology, ecosystem science and education for sustainable development, I spent several years at the German Institute of Urban Affairs conducting transdisciplinary research and advising municipalities ¨C here with a focus on municipal sustainability from a cross-sectional and integrative perspective. Since 2020, I have become increasingly enthusiastic about visions of the future, transformative research and transformative learning in the context of several research projects and further training courses and am pleased to be able to continue these focal points in P?Dual.

Research project in ProfDual: "Xtopias of digital urban futures"

The complexity of the major transformation towards more sustainable communities and the openness of future developments require as many members of society as possible to enrich the public discourse on "futuring" with their diverse perspectives. However, they must be empowered and motivated to do so. This is where Xtopias come in: Xtopias are interventions that invite people to engage speculatively and playfully with different kinds of futures, to develop their own visions of the future and to scrutinise them critically. They aim to train the power of imagination in relation to the future, openness to ambivalence and other future competences and to enable transformative learning. The Xtopia approach emerged from my own research project. I would like to test, evaluate and further develop it in the P?Dual project from April 2024 to March 2027 together with my tandem partner and, if possible, other colleagues in research and teaching with new focus topics: For example, what could the future of love look like in a highly digitalised, urban, ageing society? What new forms of communal care, solidarity and alternative rituals are conceivable? What role can artificial intelligence (not) play in this? Various interventions and educational programmes are planned inside and outside the university with changing practice partners.
