A portrait of the designer and author of "This little book is for you" by filmmaker Andrej Tschitschil.

Barbara Avila Vissirini studied communication design at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam and worked as a research assistant at the UCLAB at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam after graduating. The Brazilian researches the connection between design and information visualisation in the field of foreign language learning. In 2019, she received the departmental award for the best Master's thesis on the topic of Visuals for Language. During this time, Barbara developed an innovative system to visualise grammatical structures and thus simplified access to the German language. The result is "This little book is for you", which is not only just a stroke of luck for visual learners.

The "scientific designer" receives a lot of support and positive feedback for her award-winning work, as Barbara initially makes her book available to everyone as a free download before launching it "classically" on the market: "A special moment, last year the little book was on display in the first bookshops. At the moment, you can only find the book in a few independent bookshops in Berlin and Potsdam, such as ocelot in Berlin-Mitte. However, I have now entered into a partnership with a wholesaler and in the next few months we should also be available in bookshops in other cities."

In 2022, she founded the company "Grammatikon ? Wir machen Grammatik sichtbar" because she plans to add to her visual system: "I never thought that I would one day start a company, especially a company in another country! It actually took me a long time to come to terms with the idea of being an entrepreneur. What helped me a lot was finding role models of female entrepreneurs."

In the start-up portrait by filmmaker Adrej Tschitschil, Barbara not only explains how to use her graphic language learning book, she also provides insights into her experience of becoming self-employed.
