Exhibition: Trieste – Harbour of Cultures
The exhibition presents works carried out by students of the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam as part of the Master's programme in the 2023/24 academic year.
The lecturers chose the city of Trieste as a case study for the development of 33 individual projects, which were presented and discussed as Master's theses in September of this year. The first phase of the work consisted of an in-depth study of the city's history and architecture through a week-long field trip and extensive bibliographical and documentary work.
Atlas
The second phase of the work consisted in the elaboration of a typological atlas of the city, which included the analysis and tracing of some exemplary places, architectural ensembles and individual architectures. This atlas, developed through the research method of tracing, enabled the students to get to know the city from a morphological point of view and to learn more about the local architectural and building tradition.
Design
In the third phase, the students selected topics for their individual Master's theses. These were discussed with the lecturers and projects were developed on these topics. The proposed urban, architectural and functional solutions took into account the needs expressed by the city of Trieste and identified during the research carried out. The 16 projects presented in the exhibition are intended to offer a possible scenario for the future Trieste and contribute to the debate on the use of underutilised or disused areas in the urban area.
The exhibition is curated by Giacomo Calandra di Roccolino with Silvia Malcovati, Ludger Brands, Sarah Gottschalk, Büsra Maras, Lena Maylin Siemann.
