80th Anniversary of the Liberation of Europe from National Socialism
Remember! But how? 80th Anniversary of the Liberation of Europe from National Socialism
The 8th of May marks the 80th anniversary of Europe's liberation from National Socialism. It is being commemorated everywhere. But remembrance falls short if it only focuses on the end of the war, the "collapse". It is also necessary to remember the long twelve years that led up to the 8th of May 1945 and to take a stand on the complex legacy of the dictatorship. Urban development played an often underestimated role in the stabilisation and duration of the dictatorship. On the 8th of May 2025, a basic work on National Socialist urban planning will be published, which will be presented on this day at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam. Afterwards, we will discuss how a university can contribute to the culture of remembrance on a former barracks site.
