Prof. Dr. Franziska Geib

Prof. Dr Franziska Geib, born in 1987 in Alfeld an der Leine in Lower Saxony, has been a professor in the Department of Social and Educational Sciences since 1 April 2024. She is Professor of Inclusive Work with People with Disabilities and Diversity and the Anti-Discrimination Officer at Potsdam University of Applied Sciences.

Prof Dr Franziska Geib completed her Master's degree in Social Work at Esslingen University of Applied Sciences in 2013 and then worked as a social worker at the IKEROS youth office in Stuttgart Ostfildern until 2014. Until July 2021, she worked as an integration counsellor for hearing-impaired people in Berlin. In November 2019, she completed basic training as a systemic counsellor. She completed her doctorate at the University of Paderborn in December 2019 with a scholarship from the Heinz and Heide Dürr Foundation. From September 2021 to March 2024, she was a professor at Kempten University of Applied Sciences, where she also spent two years as Women's Representative for the Faculty of Social Affairs and Health.

What does success mean to you?
As a social worker, success in your day-to-day work usually means that a situation has improved for someone personally and specifically - in that sense, success is very important to me.

Who or what has significantly shaped your work?
I had professors during my studies who really encouraged me to do my doctorate. Without this encouragement, I would never have had the idea that I could do a doctorate and become a professor.

Which degree programme would you like to introduce?
Definitely: social work with deaf and hard of hearing people.

If you could look over the shoulder of someone at the university for a day, who would it be?
I would like to look over the students' shoulders and find out how they perceive the university and the courses on offer.

Do you have a bucket list and what is at the top of it?
Travelling through Canada in a camper van.

Do you have an unusual hobby?
I do acrobatic yoga, but that's not so unusual any more.

Which currently living person would you like to meet?
The actress Sandra Hüller - to take a photo together.

What is one thing you have tried once but never want to do again?
I went on the Alpspitz-Kick (zipline) last year. I'll definitely never do that again.

Thank you very much!
